Semi-6th gen-DP Moss Maritime CS-60 E Info/Jobs.
Deepsea Nordkapp is the latest addition to Odfjell Drilling’s fleet of harsh environment drilling units. The semi-submersible is an enhanced Moss Maritime CS-60 design, winterized and purposely built for harsh environment areas. The unit will meet Odfjell Drilling’s requirements for delivering highly efficient operations. Deepsea Nordkapp will now start on its voyage to the Norwegian Continental Shelf for its 2+2 year contract with AkerBP. Commencement of drilling operations is expected to take place in Q2 2019.
The Norwegian oil and gas company Aker BP, on March 22, 2021, has exercised the second twelve month option for Deepsea Nordkapp under the Contract entered into between the parties in April 2018. The second twelve month option shall commence after expiry of the first optional period in June 2022. The approximate contract value for the exercised optional scope is USD 109 million (excluding any integrated services). In addition, a performance bonus will be applicable. An additional scope based option period has been agreed which, if exercised shall follow completion of the firm period and have a duration of up to twelve months, Odfjell Drilling said.
Simen Lieungh, CEO Odfjell Drilling AS, says: “We are very pleased to see Aker BP’s continued commitment to the Alliance Agreement between the parties. The Alliance has delivered exceptional performance on Deepsea Nordkapp and we see this extension a recognition of those good results. With the addition of a further option period we look forward to continuing the Alliance into the future. ”
Odfjell
Drilling bought the Deepsea Nordkapp drilling rig, former Stena Midmax, from
Samsung Heavy and won a contract for it from Aker BP back in April 2018.
Odfjell Drilling was awarded a two-year firm drilling contract for the rig with
1+1 year optional periods.

On December 18, 2019, Norwegian oil company Aker BP has exercised the first one-year option for Odfjel Drilling’s Deepsea Nordkapp semi-submersible drilling rig. The two companies originally entered the drilling contract in April 2018. The first one-year option will begin after the expiry of the two-year firm period in May 2021. The approximate contract value for the firm scope is $128 million (excluding any integrated services). In addition, a performance bonus will be applicable, Odfjell Drilling said.
Simen Lieungh, CEO Odfjell Drilling AS, says: “We are very pleased to see Aker BP’s continued commitment to the Alliance Agreement between the parties and Odfjell Drilling is equally committed to delivering our very best performance on Deepsea Nordkapp.”
Offshore broker Bassoe has estimated the dayrate for the extension to be $350,000 up from the current dayrate, estimated to be around $325,000. Worth noting, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate on Wednesday said it had given Aker BP a permit for a wildcat well in the Norwegian Sea using the Deepsea Nordkapp rig.
The well 6506/5-1 S, a prospect named Nidhogg, is located in production license 1008, where Aker BP has a 60 percent interest, while its partner Wellesley Petroleum holds the remaining 40 percent interest.
The rig is equipped for ATA mooring from 100
meters – 500 meters, and can operate in DP mode in 300 m – 2000m water. The rig has a large deck area, and capacities for efficient development drilling and completion. The derrick hoisting capacity is 1250 ton, and the 1200 ton setback capacity can store drillstrings and casings which are prepared offline. The derrick hoisting system is the “dual drawwork system”, same as the Deepsea Atlantic /Stavanger /Aberdeen. This provides fast, redundant hoisting and redundant active compensating.
Large deck and tank capacities for drilling fluid, brine and base oil ensure reduced need for supplies. The rig is built to DNV Class requirements, and designed for worldwide operations. It meet the latest NMD and PSA regulations and UK HSE.
