Transocean in its latest fleet update, on October 15, 2020, has announced a 180-day extension for its ultra-deepwater drillship Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 with client Reliance, India. The extension means that the rig is now firmly committed until June 2021. The day rate for the 228 meters long drillship is $127,000.

Transocean Ltd. (NYSE: RIG) on July 25, 2019—issued a quarterly Fleet Status Report that provides the current status of, and contract information for, the company’s fleet of offshore drilling rigs. The company said that the 7th gen Samsung 12000 Drillship Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1’s – Customer Reliance has exercised 365-day option off the coast of India. This is extension of previous contract. The development drilling work will continue to run from Nov 16th, 2019 until mid Nov 2020. The dayrate of rig for this extension is fixed at US $ 127, 000, above US $ 124, 000 from current dayrate.

Since its last report Transocean added approximately $158 million in contract backlog, bringing total backlog to $11.4 billion.

This quarter’s report includes the following new contracts:

• Transocean Barents – Awarded a three-well contract plus three one-well options in Canada;

• Discoverer India – Awarded a 120-day contract plus six one-well options in Egypt;

• Leiv Eriksson – Customer exercised two one-well options in the Norwegian North Sea;

• Deepwater Asgard – Awarded a two-well contract in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and;

• Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 – Customer exercised 365-day option off the coast of India;

The Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 is the first of two ultra-deepwater newbuild drillships owned by a joint venture company with Pacific Drilling Limited ("Pacific Drilling"). The dynamically positioned, double-hulled drillship Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 features National Oilwell Varco drilling packages that include advanced offshore drilling technology, with significant off-line tubular-handling and stand-building capabilities, advanced mud system designs, advanced systems for building, storing and running several subsea trees and efficient riser and BOP (blowout preventer) handling systems.

On February 19, 2018, Transocean informed in its fleet status report that the Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 drillship has won a six-well contract plus options offshore India. Transocean has not revealed the dayrate for this contract with India’s Reliance but it has revealed that it starts in July 2018 and ends in November 2019.

On 8 Jul 2013, Transocean and ONGC have announced that the drillship ‘Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1’ has set a new world record for the deepest operational water depth achieved by an offshore drilling rig. The unit which beat the previous record it set in February 2013 spudded a well in 10,411 feet (3,174m) of water while working off the east coast of India. The unit which is being sublet by ONGC from Reliance Industries is due to end its four year drilling assignment with ONGC once it has completed the newly spudded well. Upon completion the unit will return to Reliance for the final remaining year of its original five year contract.

In 2011 the Transocean drillship the Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 set the world water-depth record at 10,194 feet of water (3,107 meters) while working for Reliance - LWD and Directional drilling done by Sperry Drilling in India.

On August 10, 2009, Transocean's ultra-deepwater drillship Dhirubhai Deepwater KG1 has commenced operations in India under a five-year drilling contract with Reliance Industries Limited. The company currently expects that Reliance will sublet the rig for the first four years of the contract to Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited, and that Reliance will operate the rig for the fifth year of the contract.

Transocean is a leading international provider of offshore contract drilling services for oil and gas wells.
