The Emerald Driller is an independent leg, jack-up rig, cantilever of a Baker Marine Pacific Class 375 design built in 2008. On October 23, 2019, the French oil company Total has exercised a one-year option on the existing contract for the Vantage Drilling-owned jack-up rig Emerald Driller in Qatar. The one-year option will start in direct continuation during 2Q 2020 and includes an additional option year, Vantage said. The rig owner signed the previous two-year extension for the Emerald Driller back in November 2017.

The offshore drilling company Vantage Drilling on Sept 21, 2020, has secured a one-year extension for its jackup rig Emerald Driller with Total Qatar. The rig is now firmly committed until Q2 2022 with further options available thereafter. The one-year contract extension will start from early July 2021 and run until early July 2022. The estimated dayrate of the rig for the contract is US $ 75 000. The contract has additional option for one-year extension or options available thereafter.
Ihab Toma, Vantage CEO, commented: “The Emerald Driller has performed superbly for Total Qatar and we are delighted with their confidence in Vantage and the Emerald Driller to work on some of their most extreme wells.”
The rig’s estimated dayrate under the new option will be $80,000. The option starts on July 1, 2020, and expires on July 1, 2021. Currently, rig is standby, in Qatar waters, Middle East at a reduced rate for a period of three months.
On November 8, 2017, Offshore driller Vantage Drilling has been awarded an extension of its drilling services contract for the Emerald Driller jack-up drilling rig. Vantage informed that the contract for the Emerald Driller would be extended for two years, beginning in May 2018.

Vantage has not revealed further details about the client, location, nor the value of the extension. However, according to the driller’s latest fleet status report the Emerald Driller has been operating for Total Qatar since the fourth quarter of 2016. Vantage reported a net loss of approximately $40.1 million for the three months ended September 30, 2017, as compared to a net loss of $41.5 million for the same period last year. The driller’s revenues increased to $57.7 million during the third quarter 2017 from $39.9 million in the corresponding period last year.
