Rig Contract Details:

Operating Status:        Operational

Operator:                     Pertamina

Japan Drilling Company (JDC), on November 5, 2020, has secured a 1.5-year (18-month) contract extension for its jackup Hakuryu-14 with Indonesian oil and gas company PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam. The rig will be used for drilling within the Mahakam Block, offshore Indonesia. This means that the rig is now committed until May 2022 and has two one-year options also available. The estimated the dayrate of the rig to be around US$ 70,000.

Pertamina had in November 2019 awarded a contract extension for the rig that was supposed to keep the jack-up unit busy in Indonesia until early December 2020. Jack-up drilling rig "HAKURYU-14" currently operating at Mahakam Block, Republic of Indonesia.

On November 18, 2019, Japanese offshore drilling contractor Japan Drilling Company has been awarded a contract extension for one of its jack-up rigs. JDC said its Hakuryu-14 rig would remain on a contract with Pertamina Hulu Mahakam at the Mahakam block, offshore Indonesia.

The contract extension is expected to keep the drilling rig with Pertamina until early December 2020. JDC did not share the dayrate agreed for the contract. Bassoe Offshore has estimated it to be around $80,000. This is an increase from the current dayrate estimated by Bassoe Offshore to be around $60,000.

On December 7, 2018, Japan Drilling Company (JDC) has informed that its recently built jack-up rig has started drilling for Pertamina in Indonesia. JDC said, its HAKURYU-14 jack-up rig started the drilling operation based on the contract with PT Pertamina Hulu Mahakam on December 6 at Mahakam Block, Republic of Indonesia.

Offshore Energy Today reported in August, based on VesselsValue data, that Pertamina had hired the Hakuryu-14 jack-up drilling rig on a one-year term.

This is the newest rig in JDC’s fleet, delivered in January this year. The company is still waiting for the delivery of one rig, the Hakuryu-15. The contract for the construction of the rig was awarded to Sembcorp Marine’s PPL Shipyard in November 2014. Also, while Pertamina has started drilling, one other operator in Indonesia, Ophir Energy, has completed an exploration well there. Ophir on Friday confirmed it had made a gas discovery at its Paus Biru-1 exploration in the Sampang PSC offshore Indonesia.

The well has been plugged and abandoned as a gas discovery and plan of development will now be prepared for submission to the regulator for approval, Ophir said.

On August 17, 2018, Indonesian state-owned oil and natural gas corporation Pertamina has reportedly hired one of JDC’s jack-up rigs. Pertamina has hired the Hakuryu-14 jack-up drilling rig, owned by Japanese offshore drilling company JDC. The rig has, reportedly, been hired on a one-year term contract. VesselsValue’s data indicates that the Hakuryu-14 is expected to begin work on September 1, 2018, and end it on August 30, 2019. The contract for the drilling rig also includes a one-year extension option.

The contract for the construction of the rig was awarded to Sembcorp Marine’s PPL Shipyard in November 2014.

HAKURYU-14 is a high standard unit sized for large Variable Deck Load (VDL), useful deck space, 150 Person On Board (POB), full preload jacking capability, deep water drilling operation (400 ft water depth), deep drilling (35,000 ft drilling depth), High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT) drilling and zero discharge operation.
