Offshore oil gas semisub drill rig-WilPhoenix

F&G L-907 Enhanced Pacesetter Semi Drill Rig Info/Jobs.

The WilPhoenix is a 3rd-Generation, Enhanced Pacesetter, Harsh-Environment, Mid-Water, Semi-Submersible Drilling Rig which has been extensively refurbished and upgraded by Awilco Drilling since her acquisition in 2010, offering customers improved reliability, operability and performance. The WilPhoenix is fully UK compliant and is predominantly targeted at the UK market.

Rig Contract Details: Operating Status: Operational; Operator: Petrofac;

On May 12, 2020, with reference to a letter of intent of 25 February 2020, between the two companies, Awilco Drilling PLC confirmed that a contract has been signed with Serica Energy (UK) Limited an oil and gas company for the provision of Semi-submersible rig WilPhoenix for a one well workover on the Rhum field. The contract has an estimated duration of 70 days including preparatory works and will commence around 15 September 2020. WilPhoenix is expected to be available for future work
from early December 2020.

The rig was supposed to start its 100-day P&A contract with Petrofac early in May, however, an agreement was reached to delay the start of the plug and abandonment works until May 25, 2020.

WilPhoenix is one of Awilco Drilling’s two Enhanced Pacesetter semi-submersibles and is equipped for drilling in water depths up to 1,200 ft. Awilco Drilling also has two new build rigs on order of Moss CS60 ECO MW design equipped for drilling in harsh environments, and independent options for additional two rigs of the same design.

The WilPhoenix rig is currently on standby rate under its contract with Petrofac. Namely, Petrofac has recently postponed the beginning of the plug & abandonment program on Rubie and Renee fields. As a result, Awilco Drilling’s rig has been put on standby rate.

The work programme will involve recovering debris left in the well by the previous operator and removing an obstruction that is believed to be in place across parts of the downhole completion. The well will then be recompleted and put into production. R3 is already connected to the subsea production infrastructure.

Rhum is a gas condensate field producing from two subsea wells, R1 and R2, tied into the Bruce facilities through a 45km pipeline. Rhum production is separated into gas and condensate and exported to St Fergus and Grangemouth respectively along with Bruce and Keith production. These wells are capable of producing at combined rates approaching 30,000 boe/d (gross), of which over 95% is gas.

The field has produced at relatively constant

rates with limited reservoir decline evident through the past year. Average Rhum production from the two wells in 2019 was 13,775 boe/d net to Serica's 50% field interest.

A third well, R3, requires intervention work before it can be brought on production. In 1H 2019, investigative work to assess the condition of the well and associated control systems was successfully carried out and the data gathered has been incorporated into planning for the R3 intervention.

Serica has also noted it has assessed the potential for COVID-19 related matters to impact the availability of equipment and or personnel and has determined that there are currently no related issues that will prevent the execution of this project. Mitch Flegg, Chief Executive of Serica Energy, commented: “With a strong balance sheet, no debt and limited decommissioning liabilities, Serica is well-placed to weather the wider industry downturn related to COVID-19 and low commodity prices.

“This resilient position is enabling us to also
continue with our previously stated work programmes. “Bringing the R3 well into operation will increase the production capacity of the Rhum field and will also improve the expected ultimate recovery of reserves. “Having three rather than two wells will also provide more flexibility in the management of the field“.

On May 5th, 2020, Norway’s Awilco Drilling and Petrofac have come to an agreement to delay the commencement of the plug & abandonment program on the Rubie and Renee fields on the UK Continental Shelf. The campaign has been delayed until May 25, and Awilco’s 1982-built semi-submersible WilPhoenix will be on

standby rate for the period of the delay. The rig will be used for a three well plug & abandonment program on Rubie and Renee fields. It was originally awarded the three-well contract in March. Awilco Drilling has two semi-submersible rigs in its fleet, with an additional two currently under construction at Singapore’s Keppel FELS.

On March 10th, 2020, Norway’s Awilco Drilling has been awarded a contract by Petrofac for

1982-built semisubmersible rig WilPhoenix. The rig will be used for a three well plug & abandonment program on Rubie and Renee fields. The program is scheduled to commence early May, and has an estimated duration of 100 days. Petrofac was awarded the well plugging and abandonment contract for Rubie and Renee by Hess Corporation in August 2019. Awilco Drilling currently owns two semi-submersible rigs, and has another two under construction at Singapore’s Keppel FELS.
