The Norwegian jackup rig owner Borr Drilling, on March 1, 2021, has been awarded a series of new contracts and letters of intent, according to its latest rig status update. Mexico’s Pemex has signed letters of intent for the contract for Borr Drilling's Gersemi jackup rig which is expected to start from early March 2021 to late December 2021. Pemex has awarded a letter of intent (LOI) to the Integrated Well Services (IWS) joint venture for the Gersemi. The estimated dayrate of the rig for the contract is USD 100, 000. The contract is for an estimated 300 days extension of the previous contract for the Gersemi rig.
During the fourth quarter 2020, Borr generated $60.2 million of revenue and a net loss of $46.7 million, or $0.22 per share. The company used $38.4 million of cash in operating activities but managed to offset this loss by $16.9 million asset sale proceeds and $31.4 million of proceeds from share issuance. As a result, Borr's cash position improved from $12.5 million at the end of the third quarter to $19.2 million at the end of the fourth quarter.
Borr drilling has subsequently raised gross proceeds of $46 million in an equity offering which was a part of the liquidity improvement plan. The company sold 54.1 million shares at a price of $0.85 per share. In 2020 and early 2021, Borr made a number of deals which helped it to push debt maturities into 2023 and beyond, as well as re-schedule the remaining rig deliveries (5 newbuild jack-ups) for 2023. Borr Drilling Limited (“Borr” and the “Company”) on March 15, 2019announce that one of its subsidiaries, in partnership with OPEX Perforadora S.A. de C.V., has received an official award from Petroleos Mexicanos (“PEMEX”) for the delivery of offshore wells in Mexico. The development drilling work is now expected to start on July 22, 2019 and end by Jan 21, 2021. The contract will run for duration of 549 days at an estimated day rate of US $ 100 000.
Under this award, Borr will deliver a total of 9 offshore development wells to its customer under an integrated services model. The scope of services will include the deployment of two of the Company’s premium new build jack-ups, the “Gersemi” and “ Grid ”, both of PPL 400 design which are built to meet the requirements of PEMEX, for period estimated to be around 18 months and expected commencement in mid-2019.
Further, under this project, Borr will leverage on its strategic collaboration with its partner and main shareholder, Schlumberger, to provide comprehensive oilfield services and deliver an end-to-end well solution to its customer. Borr Drilling Limited is an international drilling contractor incorporated in Bermuda in 2016 and listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange from August 30, 2017. The Company owns and operates jack-up rigs of modern and high specification designs and provides services focused on the shallow water segment to the offshore oil and gas industry worldwide.
Borr Drilling Fleet Status Report of 05th March 2019, showed- Gersemi: • Advanced Negotiations: mid 2019, Multi-year contract, Operator Undisclosed.
Borr, in partnership with OPEX Perforadora, will deliver a total of 9 offshore development wells to Pemex under an integrated services model. The operations are expected to begin in mid-2019. Borr did not disclose the dayrates for the rigs. Bassoe Offshore initially estimated the dayrates to be around $90.000, but then upgraded the estimate to $100.000 per rig.
The contract follows reports earlier in March when Borr said it was in advanced talks with undisclosed operators for multi-year contracts for four newbuild rigs – Grid, Gersemi, Saga, and Skald, all warm-stacked in Singapore. The offshore driller, which owns a fleet of 36 offshore drilling rigs, recently posted the 4Q 2018 net loss of $110.7 million down from a loss of $61,7 million in the corresponding quarter of 2017. Net loss in the third quarter of 2018 was $39 million.
On average, 8.6 rigs were operating during the fourth quarter of 2018 generating operating revenues of US$53.5 million compared to operating revenues of US$0.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2017 where only one rig had started operations just before the year-end.
Borr Drilling said in February it would, based on current contracts, be cash-flow positive from the end of Q2, 2019. The company has labeled the contracting environment as positive. In its quarterly results report Borr said it was expected that Mexico’s Pemex would award around 15 jack-up contracts in 2019 with durations of 2 years each.
