Shelf Drilling, Ltd. (“Shelf Drilling” or the “Company”, OSE: SHLF) on July 5, 2019 announced that it has secured a contract for the Shelf Drilling Scepter jack-up rig with Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd. (“Chevron”) for operations in the Gulf of Thailand. The contract is expected to commence in Q1 2020 and run until Q2 2022 and includes a one-year option. The rig’s estimated dayrate under this contract is $75,000.

Chief Executive Officer, Shelf Drilling, David Mullen, said: “We are pleased to continue our long-standing partnership with Chevron through this award for the Shelf Drilling Scepter. The high specification jack-up rig has been a significant enhancement to our fleet, and we are thrilled to have secured its maiden contract in a strategically important region. This award strengthens our long-term presence in the Gulf of Thailand and demonstrates Shelf Drilling’s success in securing contracts in a very competitive market.”

Shelf Drilling is a leading international shallow water offshore drilling contractor with rig operations across Middle East, Southeast Asia, India, West Africa and the Mediterranean. Shelf Drilling was founded in 2012 and has established itself as a leader within its industry through its fit-for-purpose strategy and close working relationship with industry leading clients. The company is incorporated under the laws of the Cayman Islands with corporate headquarters in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The company is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange under the ticker “SHLF”.

Besides, this week, Shelf Drilling executed a two-year extension for each of the Shelf Drilling Tenacious and the Shelf Drilling Mentor jack-up rigs.

On July 2, 2018, offshore drilling co. Shelf Drilling has entered into a definitive agreement to buy the Ocean Scepter jack-up drilling rig from Diamond Offshore. Shelf Drilling said the cost for the rig, including the purchase price, the expected costs for the planned reactivation, and mobilization of the rig for its intended purpose, is expected to be $90 million.

“This all-in cost is substantially in line with the three jack-ups purchased by Shelf Drilling in 2017,” Shelf Drilling said.

The Ocean Scepter rig was built in 2008 and is of KFELS Mod Super B design.

Shelf Drilling said it would finance the acquisition with proceeds from the Initial Public Offering (IPO) completed earlier in June, and cash on hand. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, and the rig is expected to be delivered during the third quarter of 2018.
