Lone Star is an ultra-deepwater DP semi-submersible drilling rig that started its operations in April 2011. The rig is capable of drilling in water depths of up to 7,900 feet and has a drilling depth capacity of up to 30,000 feet.
On July 22, 2019, Constellation Oil Services Holding S.A. ("Constellation" or the "Company") the Brazilian offshore drilling co. announced that three of the Company's ultra-deepwater (UDW) rigs, Alpha Star, Gold Star , and Lone Star, have been awarded new firm contracts with Petrobras S.A. ("Petrobras") for two

years each. The drilling activities will be performed offshore of Brazil and operations under each contract is expected to commence by January 2020. The estimated dayrate to be around $155,000 for each contract.

Securing these three contracts, together with the recently announced contract for Laguna Star on a two-year deal, is a remarkable achievement for the Company. Petrobras is a key player in the Brazilian market and this reinforces the long-standing partnership the companies have built over the years. In addition, with Brava Star and Olinda Star rigs are also under contract, a substantial majority of Company’s fleet is currently under contract.

Constellation is a market leading provider of offshore and onshore oil and gas contract drilling and FPSO services in Brazil through its subsidiary Serviços de Petróleo Constellation S.A. ("Serviços de Petróleo Constellation"). With continuous operations since 1981, Serviços de Petróleo Constellation has built an unmatched reputation for excellence in offshore and onshore drilling services, obtaining ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and API Spec Q2 certifications for its quality management, environmental and safety records and systems.

The Alpha Star (DSSTM38) semi-submersible drilling rig is a cost effective drilling unit designed with drilling equipment suitable for drilling well, work over (completion and intervention),

exploration drilling as well as development drilling. It embodies the collective past experience of new builds and conversions of semi-submersible units, which results in a rig, which is optimized for offshore operations, environmental protection and safety aspects. Distinguishing this rig is the high level of environmental protection built into the operational case.

The Alpha Star is environmentally friendly, designed for maximum uptime while minimizing emissions and discharge. Crew requirement is optimized on the drill floor as the rig is outfitted with automated pipe feed and stabbing as well as pipe-handling functions.

The Alpha Star (DSSTM38) and equipment have been designed to operations in environmental conditions of the Gulf of Mexico, West Africa, South East Asia, Brazil and similar conditions up to 9,000 ft. (2.743 m) water depth, and can drill up to 24,600 ft. (7.500 m) from RKB with a variable drilling load of up to 9,622 ton (10,606 sh ton). Special consideration for the Campos and Santos Basins environmental conditions is

taken into account in the design to guarantee adequate and satisfactory operations in the brazilian offshore.

The hull structural steel material has been designed for ambient temperature of -10°C. Maximum ambient temperature has been established at 40°C. Seawater temperature shall be based on 0° to 32 °C. The vessel is designed to keep station with eight azimuth thrusters utilizing a dynamic positioning system to meet ABS Class requirements for DPS 2 and Petrobras specification. The DP-system has been designed to keep the vessel on location according to the Campos Basin 1-year environmental conditions with the riser connected and under drilling operations.

On 29 Mar 2011, Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS) has delivered Alpha Star, the second of two DSSTM 38 semisubmersible rigs, to Brazil's Queiroz Galvăo Óleo e Gás (QGOG) four months ahead of schedule and with zero lost time incidents. This continues Keppel FELS track record of delivering its rigs on time or ahead of schedule. It is the third early delivery this year, following the early delivery of the semisubmersible drilling tender, West Jaya, to Seadrill and of the KFELS N Class rig, Rowan Stavanger, for Rowan Companies. The rig has been chartered by Petrobras for six years to support exploration and production activities offshore Brazil.

On 3 Jun 2008, Keppel Offshore & Marine Ltd (Keppel O&M), through Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS), has secured a US$385 million repeat order to build a semisubmersible drilling rig for Brazilian drilling contractor group Queiroz Galvăo Óleo e Gás (QGOG). This price excludes the drilling and subsea equipment which will be supplied by QGOG. To be named Alpha Star, this deepwater platform will be

built to the DSS™ 38 design jointly developed by Keppel O&M’s technology arm Deepwater Technology Group and Marine Structures Consultants of The Netherlands. This latest rig is a repeat order of the first semisubmersible, Gold Star, which was awarded to Keppel FELS in August 2006. Gold Star will support Petrobras’ growth plans whilst Alpha Star may be deployed in either offshore West Africa or South America, when they are delivered in the second half of 2009 and of 2011 respectively.
