Offshore oil gas semisubmersible drill rig-Deepsea-Stavanger

Semi-6th gen-DP GVA 7500-NE Drill Rig Info/Jobs.

The semi Deepsea Stavanger is designed for operations in harsh environments and at water depths of up to 3,000 m. It is equipped with a full conventional mooring spread for operations in water depths of 70 to 500 metres. The 7,500 mt loading capacity in all operating conditions ensures efficiency, with a reduced need for supply. Additionally, full winterization may be provided for improved working conditions in an arctic environment.

Rig Contract Details:
Operating Status: Operational
Operator:       Total

Aker BP the Norwegian oil company and Odfjell Drilling, on September 22, 2020, have signed a contract that commits further work to Deepsea Stavanger under the existing Frame Agreement. The contract is for the use of Odfjell Drilling's 2010-built Deepsea Stavanger semi-submersible drilling rig. The rig is currently employed by the French oil major Total in South Africa on a $438,000 day rate. Using the Deepsea Stavanger, Total recently started drilling the closely watched prospect Luiperd well. The rig is currently drilling the Total-operated Luiperd-1X, the second exploratory well on deepwater block 11B/12B offshore South Africa.

After the rig's completion of operations in South Africa and its return to Norway, the contract with Aker BP will begin at the latest by end of Q3 2021. Odfjell Drilling said that the Deepsea Stavanger would initially be committed to drill five wells for Aker BP, on an estimated contract value of up to $44 million, plus incentives.

The duration of the contract would be around 150 days, with an estimated day rate of around US $ 290,000. This is the second drilling contract announced by Odfjell Drilling this week.

The company on September 21, 2020 said that Wintershall DEA would hire its Deepsea Aberdeen semi-submersible, following an early contract termination by BP. The rig, which has spent years, working in the UK North Sea, will move to Norway to drill exploration wells at Wintershall DEA's Dvalin North and Bergknapp fields and development wells at Vega field on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The contract with Wintershall, expected to begin in in February/March period of 2021, is for four firm and three optional wells with an expected firm duration of approximately 300 days.

On May 19, 2020, Odfjell Drilling says it has come to an agreement with Total South Africa for 2010-built semi-submersible rig Deepsea Stavanger to remain idle in Norway due to ongoing restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic. Odfjell says the rig will remain idle for a period, prior to the mobilisation of the rig, and it will be compensated by Total during this time.

The length of the idling was not revealed, but once completed the rig will then mobilise to South Africa to commence the charter as planned. “The idle agreement is a reflection of both Parties’ commitment to proceed with the South Africa drilling program and shall provide the framework to navigate the current uncertainty,” Odfjell said in a statement.

On July 12, 2019, Odfjell Drilling has signed a firm drilling contract with French oil major Total for drilling offshore South Africa with the 6th generation semi-submersible Deepsea Stavanger. The Deepsea Stavanger is a semi-submersible drilling rig of the GVA 7500 type, owned and operated by Odfjell Drilling.

The contract value including compensation for mobilization and demobilization periods is estimated as being USD 145 - 190 million plus incentives. The company expects the drilling program to take 180-280 days. Mobilization to South Africa is expected to start in Q1 2020.

The development drilling work is expected to start in June 2020 and end after mid Jan 2021. The contract will run for duration of 230 days at an estimated normalized day rate of US $ 425, 000. The semisub currently working under Aker BP in North Sea, Norway, which is set to end by mid March, 2020.

"Following Total's recent successful campaign with Deepsea Stavanger in South Africa on the Brulpadda well, which ended in February 2019, we are very pleased to continue the collaboration with Total for the next phase of the project on Block 11B/12B.

Simen Lieungh, CEO said, "We believe it is of great benefit to Odfjell Drilling and Total to be able to utilize the same drilling unit for the next wells in order to build on the experience from the previous exploration drilling campaign in this operationally challenging harsh environment high-current area".

The Brulpadda well on Block 11B/12B was spud in late December 2018. Total encountered a total of 57 meters of net gas condensate pay over two Lower Cretaceous high-quality reservoirs and described the discovery as a ‘world-class play.’ Block 11B/12B is located in the Outeniqua Basin 175 kilometers off the southern coast of South Africa. The block covers an area of 19,000 square kilometers with water depths ranging from 200 to 1,800 meters.

Earlier on July 4, 2019, Norway’s Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) gave its consent to Aker BP to drill an exploration well in the Norwegian Sea, using the Deepsea Stavanger drilling rig. The consent applies for drilling of the exploration well 6608/6-1 – named Vågar – in production license 762 in the Norwegian Sea.

Aker BP is the operator of this license with an ownership interest of 20 percent. Other licensees are Equinor, with a 60 percent, and Petoro, with a 20 percent interest. Aker BP has already secured a drilling permit for this well from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD).

The drilling location is around 100 kilometers north-east of the Skarv field and 170 kilometers south-west of Røstøyan. The drilling of the well is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2019 and drilling operations are expected to last 27 days. This is the first exploration well to be drilled in the license. Water depth at the site is 288 meters.

The well will be drilled by Deepsea Stavanger which is a semi-submersible mobile drilling rig of the GVA 7500 type, built in South Korea in 2010. It is owned and operated by Odfjell Drilling. The PSA issued Deepsea Stavanger with an Acknowledgement of Compliance (AoC) on March 16, 2017.

On June 21, 2019, Norwegian E&P player Aker BP has received consents from the Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) for the use of the Deepsea Stavanger and Maersk Invincible rigs for exploration drilling in the North Sea and development of Valhall Flank West, respectively. The first consent is for the exploration drilling of the Liatårnet well, designated 25/2-20. It is located in the Aker BP-operated production license 442 in the North Sea.

The well will be drilled at a water depth of 110 meters in the so-called Noaka area. Noaka stands for “North of Alvheim, Krafla, and Askja,” a collection of discoveries east of Frigg in the central North Sea. The PSA said that the drilling was scheduled to begin on June 26 and expected to last at least 12 days.

It will be drilled by the Deepsea Stavanger drilling rig after completing the drilling of wildcat well 15/6-16 S for Aker BP in production license 777. The well will be drilled by the Deepsea Stavanger semisub drilling rig.

The Deepsea Stavanger is a sixth generation deepwater and harsh environment semi-submersible. This unit, along with its sister rig Deepsea Atlantic and Deepsea Aberdeen, is a state-of-the-art dual derrick, dynamic-positioned unit of enhanced GVA 7500 design.

The Semisub rig has a state-of-the-art, highly efficient drilling system, which includes a dual derrick with a main and an auxiliary work centre

to facilitate a number of simultaneous operations. The drilling system has dual active heave compensating drawworks for increased performance, efficiency, safety and redundancy. The rig is designed for worldwide operation and will be especially suitable for development drilling. The rig meets the latest regulatory requirements of Norwegian NMD & PSA/UK HSE & NORSOK.
